Detailed Canada Red Ensign Flag Product Description

The Canadian Red Ensign or Red Ensign Canadien was the informal flag of Canada until 1965. The original Canadian Ensign had the arms of the four founding provinces on its shield. In the late 19th and early 20th century, the creation of the flag was at the whims of flag manufacturers and they would often add oak leaves, crowns and wreaths as they desired. There was no standard design for the Red Ensign until the early 1920s. In 1921, the Government of Canada asked King George V to order a new coat of arms for Canada an the College of Arms designed one in response. The new shield was displayed on the Red Ensign and a new Red Ensign was born in 1922.

Perfect for the Yachting or Boating enthusiast or as a teaching tool for historical reenactments. For other sizes please reach out via the contact us link.
